Snap de la semaine: Chichen Itza, Yucatan
A shot of El Castillo, the most famous of the ruins of Chichen Itza—a site, built by the Maya civilization and located in the northern center of the Yucatán Peninsula, in present-day Mexico.
Kathryn and Daniel will post a ‘Snap de la semaine’ irregulary, but at a rate of one per week. It is an original photo not otherwise on the site—it might be fresh from our camera, a new scan of some old film, a product of our fooling around with Photoshop, or a file from the archive that we haven’t posted yet.

I’m leaving for the Yucatan next week, and have read that you are no longer able to climb el Castillo. I’ve also read that you are now no longer able to climb the pyramid in Uxmal. (I have done both pyramids on previous trips, but I am taking a friend who had never been to Mexico. He was really looking forward to climbing the pyramids.)
I have also read in one of my guidebooks, that you are no longer allowed to climb el Templo de los Guerreros (Temple of the Warriors) at Chichen Itza. Does anyone know if that is true?
I believe that the INAH has shut down access to all of the ruins at Chichen Itza — owing to the wear and tear that occurs by the more than one million people who visit the site every year. Was just there last week and everything has been roped off.
I was there! Wooo! The whole “clapping hands” thing was cool.
I like how the crowd looks dwarfed beside it. Good perspective!
