Gary Arndt needs your help to get to Antarctica

Travel blogger and photographer Gary Arndt needs your help to get to Antarctica. Quark Expeditions is searching for an official blogger to join one of their Antarctic expeditions. Do you have a passion for the polar regions? A commitment to the environment? An insatiable urge to photograph penguins? Gary does. He’s been travelling the world since March of 2007 and now he’s telling the world why he should be the official Quark Expeditions blogger. They’re looking for an adventurous spirit, a keen sense of observation, and the ability to write (in English) with style and imagination. Gary has certainly proved he has the skills to pay the blog bills over on his blog Everything Everywhere. As part of his entry to the contest, Gary writes:
Quark is looking for a blogger, and I am most definitely a travel blogger. I’ve spent the last two and a half years sharing my adventures with people around the globe through my travel blog. In that time I’ve taken over 50,000 photos, written over 1,000 blog posts, and shared them with my worldwide audience on a daily basis. In that time I’ve developed the largest online audience of any traveler in the world, with tens of thousands of people following me on my blog, Facebook and Twitter. I have been named as one of the best travel bloggers on the internet by National Geographic, Lonely Planet and many other sites. I am uniquely suited to share my experiences with the world and with the widest audience possible. Antarctica is the last frontier for travel. It is the most unspoiled, untouched places on Earth. Not only would it be a great honor to go, but I’d love to have the opportunity to bring everyone else along for the ride.
If Gary wins, he will travel with a guest to Antarctica in February 2010 and blog about his experience, chronicling the action, the emotion and the drama as his polar adventure unfolds.
So Kathryn and I are throwing our support behind Gary. Gary’s chances have just improved considerably—Kathryn and I once threw our support behind a little known liberal democrat named Barack Obama. You all know how that turned out. And we’re Canadian—didn’t even have a vote.
But this time we do, and we’re using it. Vote for Gary here.

Neat contest. Is Gary a friend of yours? Did you meet him while travelling?
Hey Stacia—Gary’s a new acquaintance that we bumped into in the blogosphere (via twitter). His website is voluminous and really, really interesting. Please go vote for him, the man’s been travelling for two years, but has yet to get to Antarctica. Quark’s prize is pretty awesome. A trip to Antarctica ain’t cheap!
Traveling to Antarctica is really neat… It not that really documented yet and any pictures of that place would be really cool!
What kinds of activities are being carried out in the area of environmental risks ?
Hi Lisa. We have no affiliation with Quark, so I have no first-hand knowledge of their environmental practices. I have read, however, that their expeditions are operated in an environmentally responsible manner.
They are active members of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) and the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO). On their wabsite, they write: “Guests aboard AECO and IAATO member vessels can rest assured that the impact of their visit is mitigated by adherence to the organizations’ guidelines.”
But again, just relaying public information, so take it for what it’s worth!
